Why B&B Il Terrazzo was born
There are images that stay with you for a lifetime, even when, as a young boy, you are not yet able to understand their true value.
I remember that, when I was a child, I often saw people stopping for hours in front of the Rupe of Orvieto. They stood there with a paintbrush in their hand, a canvas on an easel and their eyes fixed on that great cliff of tuff stone which, for me, was simply home.
At the time, they seemed a little strange to me. I could not understand why someone would spend whole days contemplating something that I had always seen, every day, without thinking too much about it.
Today, now that I am no longer that young boy, I understand that those people were not strange at all. They were sensitive people. People who were able to see beauty where I, being used to living beside it, saw only something normal.
As a child, I used to play in the fields below the Rupe. I ran with other children around the haystacks, surrounded by that landscape, without knowing that one day it would become part of my story, my work and my way of welcoming guests.
Over time, I began to look at Orvieto with different eyes. My work also helped me do this, taking me through the streets of tuff stone, among views, alleys, panoramas and places that tell the deep history of this city.
Then another passion arrived: the Internet, the computer and all the possibilities this world offers. I liked the idea of creating something, of joining curiosity and technology with what I had always had before my eyes: the Rupe, Orvieto and my home.
And so, almost without realizing it, B&B Il Terrazzo was born.
Not simply as a place to rent a room, but as a way to share a piece of my city, my story and my way of seeing Orvieto.
My wish was, and still is today, to offer those who arrive the chance to discover this city not only as tourists, but through the eyes of someone who grew up here.
Over the years, I have been lucky enough to meet people from many different countries, with different cultures, habits and ways of thinking. Each of them has left me something.
Many guests have helped me see Orvieto with new eyes. The eyes of someone arriving for the first time, someone moved by the sight of the Rupe, someone stopping to photograph a sunset, someone standing in silence before a view that, for too long, I had taken for granted.
And then I understood one thing: the Rupe is even more beautiful when you also look at it through the wonder of others.
This is why B&B Il Terrazzo is not just an accommodation. It is a small project born from memories, curiosity, love for the land and the pleasure of welcoming people who wish to discover Orvieto slowly, simply and authentically.
To all the guests who have passed through here, to those who have shared stories, smiles, questions, impressions and different points of view, I offer my most sincere thanks.
Because, in the end, the true value of this B&B is not only in the rooms, the terrace or the view of the Rupe.
It is in the meeting between those who arrive and those who welcome them.
