The Rupe of Orvieto: the panorama you will see from our B&B
It is often simply called “La Rupe”. And that is exactly what it is: an enormous block of rock that rises suddenly from the surrounding plain with almost vertical walls, creating one of the most fascinating landscapes in Umbria.
The Rupe of Orvieto formed about one hundred thousand years ago following powerful volcanic activity that deposited enormous layers of tuff and pozzolana. Later, the action of water, wind and time shaped this natural plateau, creating the imposing cliff on which the city of Orvieto stands today.
From the terrace of B&B Il Terrazzo you can admire this extraordinary geological formation every day; at sunset it turns golden and reddish, offering one of the most evocative panoramas in the area.

The room is spacious, welcoming and clean. The only flaw is the bathroom: rather small. The view is spectacular, especially at night. The location is ideal for reaching Orvieto and nearby areas with ease. The breakfast is delicious; not only abundant but truly excellent. Credit goes to the owner’s wife.
